WHAT IS PANELZ?

Panelz is a platform that will allow indie comic creators to publish, share, and most importantly, monetize their content.

Much like YouTube or TikTok, our primary goal is to provide indie comic creators a means of organically growing an audience. Right now, most ways that indie comic creators advertise and monetize come with very clear caveats. Most ‘image-sharing’ websites that comic artists share their work on, are not exclusively for those looking to read online comics and thus, their work often gets buried beneath non-comic content. Other avenues for uploading comics online often bury amateur creators under professional, corporate titles like MARVEL, DC, and Shonen Jump.

 

MONENTIZATION

The only real available monetization option for creators right now is sampling their art through social media platforms hoping that this engagement will lead to crowdfunding, which is only ever really effective if the creator already has a dedicated audience. Panelz uses an ad monetization system in which ads are placed between pages with the creator determining the ads-to-pages ratio.

We will also offer a way for creators to make their work exclusively available through a subscription service, so that if you have an audience that has sampled, and liked your work, then you can set a paywall beyond a certain number of issues so that for a weekly or monthly fee people can gain access to your work. If you choose.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Algorithmically, comics will be exposed to readers based on their engagement. The landing page will have multiple different directories based on genre, along with links to ‘most commented’, ‘most liked’, and ‘the top 7’, which will contain the most read individual comic issues for that particular week.

Panelz user profiles will have options to display information about users’ comicbook consumption like their “favorites” and what title they are currently reading. This is another way that Panelz naturally promotes user engagement. The profile system also allows users to subscribe to various creators so that if they create something new, subscribers get a notification. In addition, the profiles allow Panelz to operate as a kind of de facto social media in which writers and artists can contact each other for potential work through private messaging.
